Au Canada, environ 80% de la population vit en milieux urbains, principaux émetteurs de polluants de l'air, de l'eau et du sol. En effet, la pollution urbaine est une cause majeure de mortalité humaine dans le monde. Cette pollution est de plus en plus complexe, avec l’émergence de nouvelles classes de contaminants et de leurs interactions avec les anciennes. Le réseau FONCER PURE est une initiative bilingue regroupant des universités francophones et anglophones et axée sur la pollution en zone urbaine: air, eau, eaux usées, sol, sédiments, et biote.
L'objectif du réseau est de préparer la prochaine génération de scientifiques de l'environnement en leur fournissant une formation spécialisée sur les technologies de pointe et les stratégies de traitement de données pour travailler dans des secteurs liés à la mesure des contaminants émergents, à leurs effets biologiques et à leur rémédiation.
In Canada, about 80% of the population lives in urban areas, which are the most important emitters of air, water and soil pollutants. Indeed, urban pollution is a major cause of human deaths worldwide. This pollution is increasingly complex, with the emergence of new classes of contaminants and their interactions with legacy ones. PURE CREATE network is a bilingual initiative, including French and English universities and focused on pollution in urban environments: air, water, wastewater, soil, sediments, and biota.
The objective of the network is to prepare the next generation of environmental scientists by providing them with specialized training on new state-of-the-art technologies and data treatment strategies to work in sectors related to the measurement of emerging contaminants, their biological effects and their remediation.
